I'm a pre-med student coming from a non-medical family and blogs like yours have helped me out a lot with learning about real medicine and its politics and issues. A lot of the blogs I've found haven't had posts since, say, 2010, so it's nice to find someone who's still writing.

Regarding your post, kudos to your son for being a trooper and to the physicians involved for their service.Perrynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628616877664827988.post-47388736087028831132012-05-05T13:03:14.500-04:002012-05-05T13:03:14.500-04:00So glad to hear all of it went well. On call it can be so easy to forget how stressful illnesses are for the families we are treating. The fatigue and routine become such that unless you have a major trauma you start to minimize the effects the process has on patients and their families. It was great to be reminded of this. I had to visit and read the rest of the story.

I think it's so hard to have your child in the hospital. My son was in the NICU for stroke recovery right after birth. It always feels good to know you're in one of the best children's hospitals in the U.S.

I hope my son grows up to be just as gracious and brave as your son.Bea, OThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08301207485195668332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628616877664827988.post-87367160831778107592012-03-13T22:11:10.619-04:002012-03-13T22:11:10.619-04:00Yikes! Having seen the OR from both sides (as patient and as family), it never gets any easier, no matter how many times you do it. It also shows that a procedure doesn't have to be complicated to be lifesaving. I've had two that would fit that description of routine but lifesaving. It wasn't much fun for my mother, either.medrecgalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628616877664827988.post-215851448438244362012-03-09T19:06:00.146-05:002012-03-09T19:06:00.146-05:00Thank you for sharing this. The first night we were sent home, she vomited all the next day and so was totally dehydrated by the time we got back, then they insisted on a CT even though she couldn't keep the contrast stuff down. They finally got it out just before it ruptured. Still, it ended well and it did save her life - I never really though about it that way until now. Hope your son has a speedy recovery!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5628616877664827988.post-84135635323261288262012-03-08T21:47:56.005-05:002012-03-08T21:47:56.005-05:00So glad all went well for your son!
